Dr. Paul Nettle Middle School
This is a busy month at school. February 7th, a portion of our 8th grade class will be taking the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP). This is the test that is used to compare student learning in each state. Last year, Massachusetts students scored higher than all the states.
This Thursday, the Head Coach of the Haverhill High Girls Basketball team will be meeting with our 7th and 8th grade student athletes to discuss the importance of academics for high school athletes. This will happen during the last period of the school day at 2 PM.
Next Thursday, February 12th we are hosting our 4th annual Asian cultural Night for the Nettle Community. The event is free and starts at 530 PM. We ask that if you are able to bring a dish or make a donation of water it would be appreciated. There is a performance of a traditional Chinese dance and a craft area for our students. Last year over 200 people attended this fun event.
We have also partnered with a local community action group (POSE). Over the next two months our 7th and 8th grade students will be having discussions on race and inclusion that will be facilitated by Kat Everett. 3 Anti-racism Listening & literary dialogue circles with all 7th and 8th grade students will happen in small group settings. An outcome report will be generated with the collective wishes, needs, concerns and recommendations based on what comes up in these groups. Along with the discussions, POSE will facilitate a creative expressive arts project with the 7th and 8th grade classes, teachers, staff and families whom want to be involved.
