🏰 Weekly Knightly News

Dear Nettle Middle School Community,

As we welcome October, I want to take a moment to thank our entire Nettle community for helping make September a great first month of school! Our students have worked hard, settled into routines, and demonstrated the spirit of the Nettle Knights. We are excited to build on this positive start and make October even better!

A few important reminders and upcoming events:

📅 Monday, October 12 – No School
There will be no school on Monday, October 12, in observance of Indigenous Peoples’ Day. We hope everyone enjoys the long weekend and returns refreshed and ready for another great week.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Parent-Teacher Conferences – Thursday, October 22
Our upcoming Parent-Teacher Conferences are an important opportunity to connect with your child's teachers, celebrate their successes, and work together to support their continued growth. We look forward to partnering with you!

🎉 Student Activities Coming Up!
We have several exciting student activities planned for the coming weeks. Look for more information coming home with students soon. We encourage our Knights to get involved, participate, and make the most of the opportunities available to them.

🏆 Support Our Knights!
As we move into October, I encourage everyone to continue supporting our PTO, athletic teams, and, most importantly, our students. Your encouragement, attendance, and involvement make a tremendous difference in creating a strong and connected school community.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support of Nettle Middle School. When we work together, our students thrive!

Let’s make October an even better month for our Knights!

Go Knights! 💙💛

Counselors Corner:

Welcome to the Nettle Knights Counseling Department Newsletter

We recently introduced an evidence-based mental health program that can help our students better engage in learning, learn to self-regulate their behavior, and improve their attention skills and well-being. MindUP™ is a classroom-based program that teaches children strategies guided by the fields of neuroscience, mindful awareness, cognitive flexibility, and positive psychology to support success in the classroom and life.

October 2026 - Understanding the Brain. Students will learn about three parts of their brain—the amygdala, hippocampus, and prefrontal cortex (PFC)—and how stress affects their functioning. We will also practice a breathing technique to calm their bodies.

Tips for parents/guardians/families to help support our goals:

  1. You can support the MindUP curriculum at home by practicing core breathing exercises to calm the nervous system.

  2. Ask your child to name one thing that went well at school to reinforce a positive mindset.
