New Principal

Dear Nettle Families and Staff,
I am excited to announce that we have a new Nettle School Principal!  The hiring process included multiple rounds of interviews consisting of performance tasks related to the duties of a principal, more traditional interview sessions and an extensive reference screening process. A big shout out to the interview team comprised of staff from the Nettle School and Central Office, as well as parents and school committee members for their time and hard work.  Shereen Escovitz currently of Malden Public Schools was selected as our newest principal.
Ms. Escovitz began her career as a mathematics teacher. During her time in the classroom she taught a wide array of students in Medford and Malden Public Schools, developed curriculum to transition to the common core state standards, and led professional development to support English language learners and students with disabilities. While she taught Ms. Escovitz took on several leadership roles including grade nine academy leader, union faculty representative, and assisted in the roll-out of Malden High School’s 1:1 Chromebook initiative. In 2014 Ms. Escovitz won a one-year competitive fellowship grant with the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to develop and pilot new curriculum and programming for English language learners who were overage and under-credited. She went on to other administrative positions in the Malden Public Schools including Director of STEM Disciplines K-12 and Malden High School House Principal.
Throughout all of her roles Ms. Escovitz has consistently valued supporting students’ social-emotional growth along with their academic achievement. She has been trained in trauma-sensitive instruction and restorative practices that support a positive school environment. Ms. Escovitz is deeply passionate about ensuring that all of her students have the highest quality education, and she is excited to join the Nettle Middle School community.
I am excited to have Ms. Escovitz joining our team and look forward to her joining us on August 1st.
